In July of 2001, while conducting research for a book project, I followed the Tour de France for a few weeks. On the 21st, for better or worse, I started recording myself while stuck in traffic. Armed with my Minidisc, I attempted to catch up with the Tour in the Pyrenees. I also recorded a portion of the next day's stage to the mountain top finish at Luz-Ardiden. I've included a rough transcription below. The first sixteen minutes are banal. Late in the file, while waiting for the race, I meet...

In 2001, while visiting Brugges, Belgium, I recorded these church bells. The ringing seemed to come from all corners of the city. The mic (a Sony) was placed out the third-floor window of where I was staying. Recorded straight onto a Sharp minidisc. The ringing lasted about eight minutes. This is a 320kbps mp3; I've also posted an aiff.

I recorded these three tracks while following the Tour de France in 2001. Chamrousse track is of two riders passing during the uphill time trial. The "Caravanne" track is of the publicity caravan that precedes the Tour. I recorded this on Alpe d'Huez. And the sheep on the Col du Tourmalet are self-explanatory.
